Reconstruction depicts an image of Bashar al-Assad hanging over the ruins of a shopping mall in Homs beneath the propagandistic promise: “Together we’ll rebuild it.” The work asks what must follow destruction: how to reclaim agency through rebuilding without allowing damaged structures of power to reconstitute themselves unchanged.
